If you don't know, I'm going into the crazy profession of teaching. It's exciting for me, but others think I'm crazy. They tell me that it's a dead-end job with mediocre pay. But, what they don't realize is that teachers mold us into what we are. Without teachers we would not be where we are today.
So it really bothers me to see teachers, and other public workers, getting the shaft by legislature. The legislature is trying to take away public workers' collective bargaining rights. It's completely unfair. Teachers don't make six figures, even after benefits. People say that teachers don't have to work during the summer. This is partially true; teachers do things during the summer to get ready for the next year. Another false statement is that teachers have an eight hour job. This is also false. Most teachers I know get to the school around 7:00 AM and don't leave until at least 5:00 PM. That's ten hours.
If the government wants to cut salaries, look at professional athletes. Why the hell do professional athletes make more money than the President of the United States? Something doesn't make much sense there.

Star Wars
On my way home tonight, I started thinking about Star Wars. First off, Star Wars is not nerdy. It was a great trilogy (2x), and it wasn't even based on any books that I had to read first so I could sit in the theater and not worry if Lucas left something out. I would put this series only behind The Godfather trilogy. ANYWAYS, I started thinking about the best scenes from the six movies, and I decided to create a top 5 list.
5. ) Obi Wan Kenobi vs. General Grievous (Episode III)
This was the best fight between a stunt double and a special effect villain by far. It featured one lightsaber vs. 4 lightsabers. The only reason I only have this at #5 is because it was just way too short of a battle.
4.) The Death Star Battle (Episode IV)
For a movie that was shot in 1977, the Death Star battle was beyond impressive. It felt almost too real. George Lucas hit the nail on the head right away.
3.) Obi Wan Kenobi vs. Anakin Skywalker (Episode III)
I almost put this at #2, but because of all the special effects, I just couldn't. This fight was pretty much perfect, though. It was long enough and had kickass stunts. It had that real good vs. evil feel to it as well.
2.) Qui Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Maul (Episode I)
This was definitely my favorite lightsaber battle out of all six movies. Two vs. one, two lightsabers vs. a double bladed lightsaber, and crazy stunts. What's not to love?
1.) Battle of Endor (Episode VI)
This may a controversial #1 to some, but this was by far my favorite scene from the six movies. I was just a sucker for space battles. I didn't even care that they kept cutting from the action to the emperor's dry conversation.

Let's Make a Deal
Today I had the misfortune of watching Let's Make a Deal. This led to a question I had to ask myself: why are all the contestants wearing terrible costumes? This led to another question: why is Wayne Brady stuck on this terrible show? This led to another question: why is Who's Line is it Anyway? not on anymore?

MLB Preview
John Kruk's back on TV which can only mean one thing; baseball's near. Alot of questions need to be answered too. I have a few answers that I'm hoping aren't too far off.
Q: Who's gonna win the World Series?
A: I think this is an easy one, even though it never turns out to be. But I'm gonna jump on the obvious early favorite and say the Phillies. Their starting pitching is scary. Their lineup has a few holes in it. Utley will get plenty of pitches because of Howard behind him, but Howard needs to be protected too. If the Phillies get one more big bat in their lineup, I don't see them ever slowing down.
Q: Who will be the surprise team this year?
A: Last year it was the Reds. This year's Reds will be the Oakland Athletics. This team wasn't terrible last year, putting up a .500 record. With the AL West being pretty open, I think it's Oakland's year to make a run at the playoffs.
Q: How bad will the New York Mets be?
A: It's gonna get even more ugly for the Metropolitans this year. They finished the year 4 games under .500 last year, and that was considered pretty ugly. This year won't be any better.
Q: Will MLB The Show 2011 be as good as it was last year?
A: Of course

Greatest Generation
Yahoo recently posted an article about Generation Y (basically current college students and younger), and how we're scared of debt. Maybe this is true, but I don't care. Generation X has been boasting way too much. How many times have you heard, "You listen to that band? That's music from my time." Gen X has had this thing where if it was something cool, they don't want Gen Y to enjoy it like they did.
Don't get me wrong, Gen X did make life a lot easier, with the 60's and free love, The Beatles, and the computer. However, and they will not tell you this, Gen X also drove our country into massive massive debt. They're still doing it. Gen Y's future is dark because of Gen Y.
So Gen Y, you can and should take the credit for making our future hell.

Blog 2.0
The Hofnar is back. Blog 2.0 is under way. Last time I posted anything, I was young and stupid. Now, I'm in college, which means beer and lack of sleep has created more and better thoughts.
